Bathtub Reglazing Advice
Is there a need to provide a more worthy bathing experience in the household? Then bathtub reglazing may be an option.
Bathtub Reglazing
Bathtub reglazing or refurnishing can improve the features and quality of the present bathtub. The bathtub reglazing and the new touches can give a total makeover to the bathing facility. The body bath will be more than inviting, it will be exhilarating.
Implementing the Bathtub Reglazing
Should one feel the need to reglaze the present bathtub, there are two options to proceed. It can be a do-it-yourself experience or professional services or assistance may be sought. It really depends on the size of the tub and the size of the jobs. It will also depend to the owner, whether or not there is enough time to spare for the endeavor or sufficient resources to use.
What to Reglaze or Refurnish?
The bathtub reglazing can be refinished in any way deemed proper by the owner. Whatever the imagination may suggest can be achieved.
1. Bath Floors
The bath floors can be made non-slippery so as to provide more mobility during bath time, no need to worry over sudden slips or freak accidents.
2. Styles
The usual styles of bathtub are built-in, freestanding, soaking or specialty. Some choose the clawfoot for more antique look.
Whirlpools, Jacuzzis and jets can also be installed. Just make sure there is enough supply of hot water to maximize this experience.
3. Bathtub Regalzing Material
The tub replacement can also go according to a specific theme. Tubs now come in different quality materials. They can be made of porcelain on steel, fiberglass, composite, cast iron, acrylic or cultured marble. See all choices available.
4. Size
The size can also be designated. Single bathtubs are available, although bathtubs for two may be more preferable for couples. Be sure to try it out first before buying. It should have enough space for stretching out. It should also support properly the back, head and neck.
5. Faucet and shower valves
There are also a variety of faucet and shower valves to choose from. Pick one that will best make the shower experience a comfortable one.
6. Accessories
The bathtub reglazing can also be made aesthetically pleasing. Special lightings and enclosures may be provided to provide a certain ambience. Even audio and DVD systems may be installed. Choose any accessory that will satisfy the desires. Just make sure that safety standards are still met.
Consider all these options in planning the bathtub reglazing. Also make sure that it fits the budget. Design the bathroom without letting all the money down the drain.

The possibilities are endless. With reglazing, the bathtub is more than just a washing and showering facility. It will be the ultimate expression of the valued comfort, safety and cleanliness.
Tips For Bathrub Reglazing
Bathtub not looking as good as it should? Are you stuck with one of those outdated colors of the 1970’s? With a few simple preparations and a lot of patience, you can learn how to reglaze a bathtub and save yourself the hassle of buying and installing a new tub.
Of course, you’ll want to make sure that you work safely. Since refinishing a bathtub involves chemicals, some of which are toxic, make sure that you ventilate the area well before beginning. Also, protect yourself with a ventilator, safety goggles and gloves. Once protected, gather your supplies and get going! Give your tub a cursory cleaning and remove any loose caulking and gaskets.
Most bathtub refinishing kits come with several chemicals. The first two are chemical cleaning solutions that will remove soaps and oils from the surface of the tub and prepare it for the primer. Most kits require you to clean the tub with the first solution, scrubbing the tub with sandpaper, usually 220 or 240 grit. Once the tub is thoroughly scrubbed, rinse away any residue.
The second cleaning solution is applied next, usually with a specially designed cleaning pad that also scores, or roughs, the surface of the tub. This second step removes any remaining oil or soap and also provides “grab” for the primer. Rinse the tub again and dry with an old towel or paper towels.
The third solution in the kit is a primer reducer, a solvent that removes any remaining residue and prepares the surface for the primer. Carefully apply the reducer with paper towels. After this, repair any damage to the tub’s surface and drain area with putty and allow to dry. After about 30 minutes, sand the repaired areas smooth with a fine grit sandpaper, clean with the primer reducer and dry.
It is time to mask the area around the bathtub that will not be refinished. Carefully apply tape and paper to the areas around the tub, burnishing any tape with your fingernail or a credit card to assure a good seal.
Next, you’ll apply the base coat to the tub. Remember to wear your respirator for this part of the process, and make sure that your area is properly ventilated. Following the manufacturer’s directions, mix the primer’s components exactly and use a spray gun to apply to the bathtub. Allow the primer to dry for at least 30 minutes before applying the top coat.
Mix the paint for the topcoat following manufacturer’s instructions. Apply the topcoat using the spray gun with even strokes. This topcoat will take about 48-72 hours to completely cure. Reglazing your bathtub can be a cost effective way to dramatically update your bathroom!

Tips on getting my cats to stop peeing on the floor.?
I have 2 cats, they are about 8 years old. Ever since we moved to our new house about 3 years ago they keep peeing on the floor in front of the little boxes! We have two boxes and I clean them every other day. I’ve tried changing the type of little, getting new boxes, aluminum foil on the floor where they go, everything I can think of! And they still go on the floor in front of the bathtub!
They’ve been to the Vet, they are healthy so I know that is not the problem.
The worst part is, where they go it leaks through the floor into our basement that my husband is refinishing. He gets sooo mad and is about to get rid of them! I hate it too! It stinks and I’m the one who has to clean it because they are "my cats".
Do any of you have any tips on what we can do to get them to stop this? I don’t want to have to get rid of them, they are like family and my kids would be devisated.
Serious tips please!!!!
Thank you
Replacing a bath tub- DIY? Loaded question!?
We just purchased a home and want to replace one of the bath tubs. It is rusty around the drain, chipped in a few places and just generally filthy. It’s a basic bathtub and we were planning on going to Home Depot and just buying a new, basic model tub. There is nothing wrong with the tile around the tub (it actually looks new) and the plumbing works fine. My question is, can we do this on our own (we have little to no handyman skills!) or do we need to hire someone. Does Home Depot install them with the purchase? How much does that cost? Or, is it cheaper to refinish the tub through a company like Rebath? Can you buy the inserts at Home Depot and do those yourself? I couldn’t find them online. Thanks for any tips and info!
Bathroom Pics with Yellow Tub?
Hi folks,
I’ve got a 70’s mustard yellow bathtub (and toilet and sink). I’m about to redo the bathroom. I was going to refinish the tub and replace the toilet and sink, but before I do I was wondering if anyone knows of a site with pics of a nice bathroom that has a yellow tub. I want to see if I can make it work.
I plan to replace (possibly tile) the shower surround, tile the floor, paint the walls, and replace the vanity. Also possibly replace the toilet and sink. So, the design scheme is open. But I need pics to see what I like.
The rest of the house is very calming, New England, and classic. It’s a 1910 New England Colonial. I would want to keep with this design scheme (and don’t want to introduce a 70’s retro scheme).
Thanks!
Bathroom Remodel Questions?
I have an old 1,000sq ft house that has a crawl space (doesnt sit on a concrete slab) .. I plan on redoing my bathroom here soon. It is a very small bathroom . The bathtub is an old cast iron tub but is old and ugly (needs to be redone). Should i bust out the old cast iron tub and put in a new fiberglass or pay to have someone come in and refinish the old cast iron? Its MUCH cheaper to replace it.. I had a couple of bids on refinishing and they wanted about 600 to redo it
Where can I buy a porcelain soap dish with a washcloth bar for my bathtub?
I’m re-tiling around an old bathtub (which will be professionally refinished) and I want to replace the soap dish with a nicer looking one.
I see lots of porcelain/ceramic soap dishes for sale, but not with a washcloth bar. My tile guy says that the old tubs had these, but not the new ones.
I prefer a recessed or semirecessed one, but will consider a surface mount. It can’t stick out too far from the wall because old tubs are rather narrow.
This is my issue with my apt. complex-please read-what do I do now? Can I get my deposit back?
We moved into Columbus Village on 6/1/09. 2 weeks prior 5/21/09 we handed in an application to Gabi and were told it would take 2 days to be notified if we were approved. The next week on 5-27-09 we contacted Christina. She explained everything was approved and our apartment was ready for move in. When we arrived at our apartment on 6/1/09 I was appalled. The linoleum was torn up, the apartment was filthy. The carpet was stiff as if it had been soaked and left to dry. The bathrooms had urine and feces marks on the toilets and the bathtub and shower had black marks in them. The carpets were infested with fleas and were so bad that my husband had to get treated with Prednisone to help bring down the swelling and inflammation. Pest control was brought in 5 days later of putting in a request with Christina.
Upon move in I started crying and told Christina that I refused to move into an apartment in this state and requested our deposit and rent back as we had not moved anything in yet. She refused but promised that immediately within a week the linoleum would be torn up and replaced with tile, that the cleaning crew would be coming in to clean the apartment, the carpets would be cleaned, the bathtub and shower refinished and she would make sure that I was happy living here. On 7/1/09 I paid our first months rent, I explained to Christina that nothing had been done and I was fed up with requesting it to be done and nothing happening. At this point not only were the above items still not fixed but our air conditioner was now not cooling our apartment below 80 degrees, the refrigerator was freezing all of our food and the dishwasher was flooding our kitchen. I was informed that Christina was no longer in charge of the maintenance and it was out of her hands and was referred to Tarina. On 7/7/09 the bathtubs were sprayed and we had to be out of our apartment for the entire day. On 7/11/09 the tile work began. We had to be gone all day the 11th, 12th and 13th and were asked by Tarina if we could stay somewhere else. We informed her we didn’t have the extra money for a hotel with our 3 kids and we could if they supplied us with somewhere to stay. She checked with Noria and that request was denied. Instead we were forced out of our apartment while maintenance did the tile for 8 hours a day for 3 days. The tile was finally done but overlaying the linoleum that had obvious water damage. The maintenance worker made the comment that it had severe water damage at one time but he was told to fix it this way. When he pulled up the toilet to replace the tile, the floor fell part way in. Tile was layed over that also. We voiced our concerns to Tarina and were told by Robert that the way it was fixed was appropriate.
I complained again on 7/13/09 to Robert that we still had the refrigerator that didn’t work properly and a dishwasher that was causing water damage. He at first was very rude saying there are 220 units and it will be fixed when it’s our turn but after being made aware of how long we had waited he made a personal phone call to my husband to apologize. He explained that he was rude and it was unnecessary and had he had to live in these conditions for this long he would be upset also. He promised to have a new refrigerator and dishwasher installed no later than 10am on 7/14/09. At 4:30pm 7/14/09 there was not a new refrigerator or dishwasher and upon calling Tarina she knew nothing of it. She asked Robert and in her words was “blown off.” My husband called and said if we didn’t hear something we would be taking them to court. Immediately after we got a phone call from my step son who was at home with the younger kids. He called us telling us Noria requested to speak to us. She immediately was very defensive and was yelling so loud that I could hear her through the phone. She asked to be explained the situation. My husband explained how our appliances didn’t work and she informed him that she didn’t see a problem with them and she was not going to replace them. He explained that we cannot even use the refrigerator due to the freezing of everything in it and the fact of the water hazard from the dishwasher and she didn’t care. She said if we didn’t like her answer she would gladly let us out of our lease. Upon leaving she yelled to my kids who are 15, 11, 8 and 4 that “she would be glad to let us out of our fn lease and get us out of here.” My step son called me to inform me of this. I was very upset that she would speak to my children this way so I called Gabi in the office to explain that we would move out on 8/1/09, that we want it in writing that we are being let out of our lease and that we want our deposit back. Noria called me back explaining that she no longer needed to deal with me and that she was letting us out of our lease. I asked to have the owner call me back. She informed me she wasn’t the owner but then called back saying she was and she could help me. I told her my communication with her was over a
and I wished to only speak to the owner and that I would see her in court. I drove home from work to find 2 maintenance men, Tarina and Robert in my apartment. I explained that I wanted them to leave. They said they were replacing the refrigerator. I explained that it was too late, that they entered my apartment without my permission and that I intended taking them to court. They then left.
I am requesting my first month of rent in the amount of 4, my deposit in the amount of 0, and to get in writing that Noria agreed to allow me out of this lease. I have lived in pure filth and unsafe living conditions for over a month and a half and have to move again in order to have a habitable living atmosphere.
*** they weren’t allowed to just enter after telling me they werent going to fix anything and left telling me I was going to be let out of my lease. After being threatened to be sued they entered my apartment without permission telling my kids to get out of their way.
